About the Hospital Medicine Editorial Board

Neil H. Winawer, MD, FHM, Editor-in-Chief

Dr. Winawer is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine and Director of the Hospital Medicine Service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Winawer attended medical school at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, New York and performed his residency training at New York University/Bellevue Hospital. He serves as an inpatient attending physician for 5 months yearly, instructing medical residents and students. His areas of clinical interest include medical errors, venous thromboembolism, and allergic reactions. He has published in leading textbooks and journals of hospital medicine. Dr. Winawer is the Founding Editor for Journal Watch Hospital Medicine.

Aaron J. Calderon, MD, FACP, Associate Editor

Dr. Calderon is an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is actively involved in all aspects of the residency training program. His interests include evidence-based medicine, resident education, and health care quality. He is a graduate of SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, New York, and completed his residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Calderon has written for Journal Watch Hospital Medicine since its inception in 2007.

Daniel D. Dressler, MD, MSc, FHM, Associate Editor

Dr. Dressler is Director of Education for the Section of Hospital Medicine, Associate Program Director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Dressler directs the Medical Decision Making course for Emory medical students, the Evidence-Based Medicine program for the internal medicine residency program, and the internal medicine teaching service at Emory University Hospital. In the Department of Medicine, he serves on the Education Committee, Mentoring Subcommittee, FAME Committee, and Quality Committee. He completed his medical training, his Internal Medicine residency, his fellowship in Hospital Medicine, and a Master of Science in Clinical Research at Emory University. Dr. Dressler has written for Journal Watch Hospital Medicine since its inception in 2007.

Grace C. Huang, MD, Associate Editor

Dr. Huang is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and a hospitalist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, Massachusetts. As the Director of Assessment at Shapiro Institute for Education and Research at HMS and BIDMC, she provides faculty development and consultation in survey design and educational measurement. Her clinical research interest is in procedural competence assessment of internal medicine residents. She serves as a consultant to the Association of American Medical Colleges, an associate editor for MedEdPORTAL, and a member of the editorial board for the journal Simulation in Healthcare. Dr. Huang is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine. She finished residency training at BIDMC and completed two medical education fellowships at HMS.

Sylvia C.W. McKean, MD, FACP, FHM, Associate Editor

Dr. McKean is the Medical Director of the BWF Hospitalist Service, which serves inpatients at both Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Faulkner Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is a Scholar in the Harvard Medical School Academy in recognition of excellence in medical education and commitment to improvement and innovation in medical education. During the past decade, Dr. McKean has received more than a dozen awards for leadership excellence and teaching. In recognition of her outstanding classroom skills, she received the Society of Hospital Medicine's 2006 Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. McKean wrote for Journal Watch Hospital Medicine since its inception in 2007.
